Nose Correction - Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty

What is functional-aesthetic nose surgery?

We consider nose surgery to be the most demanding procedure in facial plastic surgery. Measures on the outer nasal skeleton have impact on the function of the inner nose in a variety of ways. Depending on the anatomy of the individual sinus system, changes to the nasal cavity can result in severe functional impairments, such as chronic sinusitis. The condition and quality of nasal mucosa is also of great importance in surgical planning. Additionally, delayed functional change can also occur. There are numerous dimensions requiring consideration that are in part directly, and in part indirectly, dependant.

We plan nose surgery "inside out". It is comparable to building a house - the static construction has to be stable in order to build a secure roof. The nasal septum is the pillar of the nasal skeleton and specific alteration of the septum is often required to achieve a visually pleasing bridge of the nose or nose tip. Sometimes, when not observing this principle, temporarily satisfactory results are still possible. However, long-term observation reveals the weakness of this approach. Therefore, we find the terms aesthetic nose surgery, or cosmetic nose surgery, to be misleading.

Only functional nose surgery can achieve lasting aesthetic results.

With the concept of functional-aesthetic nasal surgery, we focus on the functional aspect as the starting point of all our surgical planning - indeed, this is the genuine field and task for ear, nose and throat surgeons.
