Rhinoplasty

The alignment between aesthetics and function plays a central role for us in planning rhinoplasty. Both must form a unity to meet the demands of modern nasal surgery. Our standard approach is to begin our investigatory care with a nasal endoscopic evaluation of the nasal cavity and the sinus systems. Other aspects of evaluation and possible inclusion in surgical planning are the anatomical state of the nasal septum, the nasal valve area, the nasal turbinates, the relationship of sinus cavities to the nasal septum, the configuration of the middle turbinate, the mucous texture, and manifested or occult polyps, etc.

We may deem it necessary to extend the evaluation with allergologic and computer tomography (CT) diagnostics. After these steps, a clinical exterior nose analysis determines angle and length ratios in alignment with aesthetic proportions. These insights are incorporated in a digital photo simulation which, on the one hand, integrates the desires and needs of the patient in a visual form and, on the other hand, also integrates the actual achievable surgical results as determined in the endoscopic findings. Thus, the photo simulation serves as a communication tool through which it is possible to interpret and represent the complexities of the patient's wants and needs. It also provides a graphic recording of the basis upon which we can perform a precise surgical planning.
